150+ years honoring Jesus Christ as Savior
1870 – Greenwood Baptist Church was organized by Rev. Hetrick who served as Pastor for 19 years. He had ten members. The land was donated by Deacon Reed to be used as a cemetery and church. It was bought from a woman named Thorp who was from the Sac and Fox Tribe.
1871 – The church building was built by Fred Miller and member volunteers. Native wood was used, cut from a saw mill on the river. There were no roads at that time. There was a trial to the Indian Government Agency and Trading Post a half mile west of the church.
OUR MISSION STATEMENT
We honor Jesus Christ by preaching and teaching His Holy Word. We will continue, as a body of believers, to introduce Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior to those individuals who do not know Him. We will be actively involved in assisting the spiritual growth of those who come to know him. We will continue to be a source for good in our community. By God’s grace we will.
OUR BIBLE BASED BELIEFS
We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God and is infallible truth. We believe in the Trinity; God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit. We believe that all mankind has sinned and the wages (penalty) for sin is spiritual death (eternally separated from God). We believe that Jesus Christ provided the forgiveness for our sins by His death, burial and resurrection. We believe an eternity in heaven awaits all those who have accepted Jesus Christ as personal Savior. We practice water baptism by immersion and we observe Holy Communion, also known as The Lords’ Supper.
